I thought I'd restart this thread on the new forum, even though such a cheery subject does go slightly against my nature.
I was made smile on a rainy and dark Monday morning today when the Chinese child in my class came up and said it was a special day in her country, and as part of the celebrations they like to 'respect the teacher'. She then presented me with a gorgeous (and expensive looking) necklace!
I was such an unexpected and lovely gesture that it made me smile for the rest of the day :D

If I didnt know that you taught young girls I would have suggested that maybe they fancy you although I suppose in theory that is still an option. Does sound good though!

I'm smiling because I've managed to NOT rise to some passive/aggressive bait. A first for me! I guess as you get older you learn to just let things go -- rather than attempt to smack sense into the other person, lol.
Though I have to say it's not nearly as fun, I at least have maintained my calm!

I'm smiling today because it's payday and i'm getting a Chinese to celebrate having some money (until the bank takes it all tomorrow!)

im smiling cus i've finally finished my coursework!!!!! should have been handed in 2 months ago but oh well its done, it feels like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders :)
Doing those things that help make peoples day go better :)
Having a lovely afternoon sitting with my friends in a muffin place for two and a half hours, bitching about other work colleagues and all the stupid kids in our classes. We also discussed the price of art paper and pencils, which was slightly less fun. Then I went shopping and spent lots of money (I even bought some of said art paper), so it was a good day all round.
gz riz one thing that made me smile was some radom guy with a cam corder reacording my street and seemed to be watching me walk up and down with cat food while i was feeding the stary cats were i live and while i was runing to my falt to pick up my cds that i have to copy to my pc witch is at my mums only 2 mins awy from my flat was so random he did keep moveing evrytime i did

what ever and halloween is called Samhain or the day of the dead
I know that.
we all know i cant spell
But you didn't spell 'witch' incorrectly, you just used the wrong homonym.
The thought of going to work tomorrow.
I love it!

What made me smile today was getting out of my widowless studio to the freedom of the drizzle delivering greyness that lay outside. Not even the drizzle or the broken down oxford express bus in lane three on the A40 managed to take the grin from my ugly mug!

Getting a note from a parent this morning that read 'Good Morning from Caoimhe and her brothers and sisters. I hope you have a good day with the class.' Then came the signature and underneath in brackets it said '(Caoimhe wanted a note to give to teacher!)'. It was sweet, and made me smile.
How do you say Caoimhe?
(I had trouble spelling that, god help the child)
Caoimhe is pronounced quee (as in the word queen) va.

my best mate has gone to class and left me a note so when i got up it was on her computer screen. also one of the plays she is involved in has two cute guys in it [one she thinks is cute, and one i think is cute] so we keep putting up pictures off the website on her computer for each other so when i got up i had the note from her and the guy she thinks is cute's website complete with amusing picture of him. it made me smile anyway.

Not much makes me take out my earphones when im walking down the street in town, i like to be in a world of my own.
But, it was lovely and sunny and warm today, and i was walking along and heard the bagpipes being played by some busker. Of course, that isnt very interesting, but the African men on the bongo drums were! It shouldnt work, but it did. And it was lovely. I even bought a greggs and sat and listened to them. Then i gave them some money...

I actually SLEPT last night. Oh, the bliss.
:D
This isn't making me smile anymore because I now feel and look like death warmed up, but going out on a 'quiet staff do' for drinks and tapas at 6 pm and then ending up staying out til 5 am having a great laugh did make me smile at the time.
I think I only bought three drinks all night, because we ended up getting complimentary rounds, drinks bought by people we vaguely knew and by the end of the night drinks from random strangers. I had a different one each time, so ended up having Smirnoff Ice, white wine, malibu and coke, vodka and red bull/white, whiskey, a pint of fat frog, and finally downing a shot of vodka and baby Guinness because no one else was drinking them.
That earned me huge respect from a police detective, although he did tell me I probably shouldn't drive this morning. Thank God I wasn't breathalysed today, because I seriously doubt I'd have passed!
I've just realised that I've gone on for on so long that this probably should have been a blog rather than a post, entitled 'Why drinking isn't big or clever...but is so much fun' or something along those lines. Please forgive me, I do still feel quite tipsy so I'll blame my ramblings on that and slope back off to bed now.

Meeting Chris Moyles :)
Stepping out of my house at exactly the same time as my old next door neighbour, who I used to be great friends with as a kid but never see anymore because she's now living with her fiance. We ended up having a lovely chat whilst we walked on a freezing cold beach with her family dog. We never paused for breath throughout the walk, it was as if we still chatted every day and brought back happy childhood memories of going on holidays to London and Cork together.

The weather still being lovely despite it being the middle of October. Today it was so nice that I was able to take the kids out for a nature walk and then go for a walk on the beach and tea at a seafront cafe after school.
The only downside was that the sun was just so glaring when I was driving home that I really couldn't see much at all, despite wearing sunglasses.

Just having my life tick along very nicely indeed at the moment is making me smile. I have a lovely class this year; a small number of kids who are all polite, well behaved, bright and organised. As a group they're freakily quiet for their age, but I'm not going to complain about that. And because I'm having such an easy time in school it means that I'm stress free so can leave on time (no extra work to do) every day and do nice things like going shopping, to the beach, or for dinner with my friends. Plus half term is just over a week away, so things can only get better!

Metting up with a friend today and seeing her four month old baby boy for the first time. He was so cute! He was as good as gold and didn't make a sound (except for gurgling happily) for the whole hour or so we were there, just kept smiling and bouncing up and down like a little Tigger as he was passed around like a parcel from person to person.
Does it not make you feel old when your friends have 4 month old babies?
old
:103: Don't say That to Kate! She already feels old as it is, if i remember correctly for some post.

Aww he looks sweet! I saw lots of kids dressed up in various Halloween costumes down the town earlier, they all looked very cute. Not that I'll be answering the door to any pesky kids tonight. I'll be doing my usual thing of turning off all the downstairs lights and pretending no one is in.

Whilst that is a classic, When I'm older and have my own place I shall be preparing the front of my house with traps designed with hose pipes in mind, either that or I'll just hide somewhere and spray the buggers with water (only the little rat bags who are the type to use silly spray and eggs)

Having my bank (who've never been at all interested in me before now, if anything they're usually quite rude/abrupt when I have to go in for anything) call me up out of the blue because they'd noticed I had a 'high account balance'. They were inviting me in for a free meeting with a financial adviser so I can 'make my money work better for me'. My balance is far from being Lottery sized, but this call made me feel quite rich!
On the downside the woman on the phone distracted me and I ended up burning my fairy cakes a bit, but I'll get over that. I could go down to the shop and buy ten packets of cakes if I wanted to, now that I'm clearly rolling in money.
Seeing all the little kids in costumes made me smile! :D

Watching the first Christmas play of the 'season' in school today, which was excellent. We have four more in-school plays and concerts (including our own) over the next four days, concluding with a trip to see a professional show on Friday. So as well as helping to get me just ever so slightly in a festive mood, all of that also means I'll have to do very little actual teaching this week, which is quite a good result.

Seeing my little angels actually dressed up like little angels today, and managing to get through their concert without anyone falling off stage, bursting into tears, or turning around and refusing to face the audience (all of which have happened in the past). They looked and sounded so sweet it was worth all the effort involved in putting on twenty dresses, pairs of tights, wings, halos etc. Their parents took them home afterwards, leaving me with a free afternoon. This made me smile even more.

Waking up this morning feeling like death, but knowing it was all worth it. Any night that involved dancing on and falling off tables in bare feet, doing the Timewarp with a 70 year old priest, and which culminated in being violently sick as a result of one too many evil WKDs and having to be pulled into bed (by someone who wished she hadn't bothered when I threw up in the bed we were sharing) after being found slumped over asleep on the toilet, knickers around my ankles, must have been a good one. And I'm going out again tonight, whoo!

I hold my hat off to you Kate. Sounds like you have beaten me in the drunken states! Congratulations :p
Why thank you Lizzie. I take that as a great compliment. Beating you in the drunken stakes takes some doing :p I was an angel last night in comparison to Friday, but the sober look must attract men, because I never got chatted up as much as I did last night. Sadly all their efforts were wasted, because being sober (ish) meant my standards were much higher than they'd be if I was out of it too, and they all failed to meet them.
What really made me smile was finding a good (and cute looking) Samaritan afterwards, who didn't know us from Adam but ended up leaving the pub he was working in to drop us home and wouldn't even take a cup of tea and some biscuits as payment. Now if only he'd been out that night!
