Dear Aled

I hope that you’ll read this post and apologies for just approaching you in this way, however the is very important to the future of our work and for the health of many men across London.

I’m the project manager for positive campaigns and community fundraising at gay men’s health charity, GMFA. We are the UK’s leading gay men’s health charity, and our work is mainly centred around HIV prevention. You can view all the work that we do through our websites at www.gmfa.org.uk.

At the moment there’s the threat of a 36% cut in funding for gay men’s HIV prevention services across London from next April, and this will have a detrimental affect on GMFA and our ability to be able to continue our work aimed at halting the spread of HIV. As such we desperately need to keep working with the gay community in London to raise vital funds to keep the charity afloat.

We normally aim to raise around £10,000 around World AIDS Day on December 1st each year, and this is where I was hoping you could be of great help to GMFA.

Lee Thomas (aka 4th Child) is releasing a single called ‘Lovers and Best Friends’ in download format only in aid of GMFA on November 26th in time for World AIDS Day. All profits will come to GMFA and neither Lee nor the distributors are taking a single penny from the download sales. You can hear the single, see the video and view the single’s MySpace page at: http://www.myspace.com/4thchildcharitysingle or on YouTube at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5xMLWaFIh8 . Obviously the more people who download the single (and especially in one week in the hope that it charts), the more money GMFA will receive.

I have already emailed Scott Mills, Chris Moyles and yourself about this at the BBC and am hoping you'll all get to read the email and help. If you were able to promote the track once it is released on November 26th as a single whose profits will be going to help stop the spread of HIV, then the difference in funding GMFA would receive for our vital work would be immeasurable.

I have copy of the three mixes of the single (as referred to in the press release) and can forward a copy to you if you are able to help. I would also be more than happy to meet with you if you would like to discuss this further before making a decision. My contact details are below.

Many thanks in advance for your time anyway, and best wishes

Tim
