I can't believe no-one on here has thought to ask the question or try to guess about what's happening next week!

Is it obvious or something?

I'm looking forward to being surprised at where the show is going to be aired from!

No, I think most people are just half-asleep, or spend time more time whining, rather than finding positive topics to create.

It did occur to me, but I was already into topic-overload. Ha ha.

I think its more a case of we don't care where you broadcast from, as long as its you broadcasting! The show will sound the same to us whether you are in London or LA - and as such it will be good.

Is it obvious or something?

Yes. I could be wrong it what I'm thinking (although I'm fairly sure I'm right) and therefore won't say what I think it means as I hate being wrong. But if you are broadcasting from where I'm thinking you will be then yes, I think it's fairly obvious.

I'm probably completely wrong, but I'm convinced that they're in America, for something to do with Sirius.

EDIT: Actually, on second thoughts, since it's an "experiment", could it be an ISDN line to their homes? IE. doing the show as Dave did during paternity leave.

That would be pretty good Mitch but problems galore no doubt.

Yeah you're right I won't be telling. I really want to see whether this secret can really be kept a secret until 6:30 on Monday.

Normally press or a fan or a Radio 1 DJ lets slip.

Not long to go now...

2 hints - we're nothing to do with the experiment and the secret project Chris was working on for the BBC has nothing to do with it either - that was merely a coincidence that two secret projects happened at the same time.

Chris' project might get talked about next week but it won't be shown until late next year.

I don't think you had to look too carefully, it was a dead giveaway that the first few video blogs after your health check (http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/chrismoyles/080815_aled_alcohol_week1.shtml) were filmed in a holiday apartment of some kind.

I havent a clue, but I feel as if I've missed out hugely on this speculation, I'm sure once we hear the show tomorrow I'll feel better, its like loads of secret projects coming together in one bit huge happy bundle of joy (a bit like a baby or the iPod Chris wants but slightly better).

I seemed to have missed where this 'where in the world are we' thing originated, I heard it on the podcast but where else has it been? - is it just a toned down version of the frozen indigo angel thingy (which I'd like to see done for Chris' show)

Its also a great way of attracting people to tune in to find out what they're up too. It's often hard to keep a secret, when you want to tell everyone, but its great things have been kept under wraps.

Wow - just been on the Digital Spy forums and so many people are moaning about the show coming from LA this week!! One of the big arguments is how dare the BBC send the team out to America to do the show when there's a credit crunch and so many people in the UK can't afford to go on holidays anymore!! It's pathetic! I haven't been on holiday for a few years, but I don't get all bitter and twisted because they're there and I'm not!!

Personally I don't care, they could do the show from the moon as long as its them not Mills and I'd be happy.

But the core issue is one of use of public money - and if people do have a problem with the team going off on a jolly (and it is to a large extent a jolly, please don't pretend otherwise) when, as has been rightly said, a growing number of their listeners are cancelling holidays and cutting back on leisure stuff, the BBC could be accused of bad judgement in this instance.

I think realistically the cost issue is perceived to be much more significant by most of us than it probably really is. But whether they (the BBC) like it or not, that IS the perception that people have, and in the current climate of financial uncertainly nationally and individually, publicly funded bodies need to be not only financially accountable for how they spend our money but also to acknowledge the impression such apparently uneccessary spending makes on the public and listen to those who do have concerns.

VivAyrshire

What a pile of tosh, and to pettily insult Mills into the bargain is just one step too far.

I think people need to get a grip. Christ, they'll be back here before we know it.

Yudster
16-09-2008, 03:15 PM
I have no belief that you actually have a clue what I said Viv. How soon they'll be back is irrelevant - the fact that a significant and growing number of the people who fund them are complaining about the trip isn't. Just because I am not one of them doesn't mean they shouldn't be heard - its their money too.

Oh - and if I said that Scott Mills is a mincing poof who paints himself orange and pretends to like girls - that's pettily insulting him. I just said I don't want to listen to him. Which really isn't.

I know i'll get moaned at for posting this, so let me just first state I have been a fan of Moyles for a long time, I love what they do and they are a very important part of my daily routine.

Ok that said.

I tend to agree with what Yudster says. I doubt whether in the grand scheme of things the money it costs to fly the team plus several hangers on out to the US even makes a blip on the balance sheet.

However I would actually question the validity and benefit of doing the show from LA. Yes ok we have some videos, yes OK we have a couple of interviews in the pipeline, but surely this trip is of far more benefit to those there than to the audience in general. I guess what theyre trying to do is bring a bit of a feeling of being in US back to us in the UK, but how that is achievable when they are on at 1am LA time I am really not sure. Especially considering theyre in a fairly sterile radio studio for that time anyway.

Just my 2p worth. Feel free to get upset.

I've just read the thread to which you are referring to in the Digital Spy forums so I could see what you were talking about. Having done so I must say that from what I read it seems to me that whilst there are some people who are complaining about the L.A. trip and disputing the value for money involved in it, there are more who are defending the show against those criticisms.

That aside, to add my personal and impartial (where the issue of license fee payers' money is involved) view to the debate, I don't think their 'working holiday' represents the best use of the BBC's money.

If all the listeners who are paying money to fund said organisation are getting out of it is some videos and photos, a few funny stories from the teams' experiences out there, and mediocre guests, all of whom I'm sure they could have interviewed in London at some stage if they'd really wanted to, then I don't think I'd be best pleased that this was something my money was paying for if I paid a fee towards the BBC.

Didn't they only interview Mel B. in London fairly recently? So I don't know what she was doing on again for a start, she's hardly the biggest Hollywood star around.

I don't pay any money towards the BBC so ultimately it's not my concern to have an opinion on or say in how they spend their money, but looking at it as an non license fee payer I can certainly see why some people who do pay it are complaining that there are better uses the money involved could have been used for.

Aled: Is Milo as fit as he is on the tv? :icon_mrgreen:

Did they mention having met him in L.A? He was a guest on the show in London, so Aled has met him before anyway. I think he commented at the time about his fitness, but I can't remember what he said.

I guess you could say this whole 'using the licence fee' applies to anything the BBC does to be fair. Travel programmes for example, sending someone out to Teneriefe to report on how amazing such and such hotel is, and the very next minute, being in Turkey reviewing the beaches.

Or filming of all these TV shows, Merlin, Dr. Who, etc. I know that those things are TV visual shows rather than Radio, so I do understand where the reasons against are coming from. But at the end of the day, it's all there to entertain us, and I'm personally loving the shows so far. The outside broadcasts generally do give a lot more. I guess what I'm saying is that I personally don't mind they've spent the money on going there because I'm enjoying it!

I do love how I'm just so completely not articulate sometimes! I hope that made sense!

It's getting the right balance and trying to please everyone that's one of the hardest things to achieve in radio.

Not many stations or shows in the world can achieve anything like Radio 1. People should be proud that a show they love or at least listen to is able to go to LA for a week and do something different for once.

Mel B is a friend of the show?

It's getting the right balance and trying to please everyone that's one of the hardest things to achieve in radio.

Not many stations or shows in the world can achieve anything like Radio 1. People should be proud that a show they love or at least listen to is able to go to LA for a week and do something different for once.

Mel B is a friend of the show?

agreed!

I have no belief that you actually have a clue what I said Viv.

Actually, I do. I just thought it was pish. Like I said.

And to all those whining about the waste of money - given half a chance, every one of them would jump on a plane and go to Hollywood (myself included - HA!).

I wouldn't. I don't travel to places where I'd find it too hot, which would include L.A.

I wouldn't. Been there and hated it. Far too many plastic people.

Trouble is Viv, you are well known for making that kind of comment in seriousness. Thus, I think anyone could be forgiven for taking offence.
Sorry, but it's true.

.............

So, back OT...

I need to listen to the second half of yesterday's show and all of today's.

Surely the defining characteristic of humour should be that on some level or another, it might be deemed funny?

Another post in jest? Seriously, no-one other than you can tell the difference between you being 'funny' and just being insulting.

I know its not much to look forward, but knowing the team are away aboard, you know the content from the show i.e the videos and pictures will be pretty good. I think the podcasts have been good - however arent they just the best bits of the show or is it extra content - I cant tell? I would be even more inclined to listen to them (I have about three days worth of podc to listen too)

Secondly, I would expected more blogs from the team. Especially Chris? Infact, Chris (the very person we listen too) hardly ever writes the blogs? Its kinda just left to his team i.e. the producers.

Apart from that, ive been impressed with the overall content from the show especially the videos.

I'll look to you in future for advice. ..... Then again, maybe not.

I'm no mod here but been using forums for a while. You're not being helpful to yourself or anybody else. Why are winding people up or being rude?

Just be nice. Is that too much to ask?

Just been watching that now... but does anyone else have the audio go screwy at about 25:55 where Chris obviously swears and it's covered up? It appears that they've then cut a chunk of the sound out, but not the video, so it's then all out of sync, then at 32:30, the audio wraps up the interview, but then the correct audio starts again!! :(

It's a great interview by the way... well worth watching!

just watched the interview with JJ Abraham did anyone notice the bad lip sync with the vid
not sure if it was just the streaming or the editing has slipped up
