View Full Version : A new Surgery announcement

Aled

I have a little Surgery announcement that I would like to share witn you lot before anyone else...

This Sunday will be Kelly's last Surgery for a while. She's taking some time off to go and work on her new entertainment show with her family for Fox in LA.

This therefore means that for the next three months, yours truly (Hellooo!) will be filling in!

My campaign to get you lot all listening and interacting starts now :)

My first one is a heavy one granted, it's about depression, and how life can get on top of you including a short story about people who've tried to commit suicide but have lived (Sunday 19th Oct). A subject that's very important to me following some of the horrible stories coming from the Bridgend area - but after that I want you lot taking part!

I'm well chuffed, Kelly's coming on the show tomorrow morning to talk about the Switch Live event this Sunday but I'm sure there'll be the odd word about it!

:) :) :) :)

well done aled as for the subject of your 1st show depression and people who've tried to commit suicide but have lived

that is some what my feild of expertise as i am dealing with my depression and i have tired to kill myself many of times and failed and because of how messed up i am the one person who was turly close to me took hi own life its a very long stroy witch i wont talk publicly about

but i will say dealing with depression is the hardest thing i ever had to deal with theres very little help over here and you have your up days and days were you wish you were dead and i can also tell you how easy it is for some people like myself to fake a smile a laugh each day when all you relly feel is nothing or pain
the thoughts that come into your mind is would anyone notice or care as well as feelings of hate
ive been dealing with my depression from 2006 my last suicide atepment was the end of 2007/ start of this year and even now the thought of ending it all pops in and out of my mind
it has got to the point were i no longer have the will to even try to ive even lost the will to try and get fully better as the health seveice here is laughable and ran by someone who thinks you can cure being a homosexal

and at this moment there nothing else i can do but just sit back and dift though my remaining days/mounths/years and try and get better if i even can
all i turely know is that i should be dead i should not be sitting here now and how i know this is becase of the amount and strengh of the sleeping tablets i had taken was enuff to kill two poeple so i dont know how or why i am still here

i will make one thing clear i do not want or need pity i do not want to be treted any diffnenitly form what you normaly would i am meerly opening up just a small bit of what goes on is this messed up mind of mine

opening up is just a small step to getting better

and i reealy dont care if you think im lieing about this ask yourslef this why would I lie about something like this?

and how do you know if i am lieing or not after all you dont realy know me now do you
for those who do know me a bit better than the rest they know that i am a very turthful person

Aled good luck with the show/shows
ild be more than happy to tell you more anything that helps anyone else is worth the effort on my side to get over my disturst and shyness

powerful thing to admit there BBB but i think it would benefit you to talk to someone about these thoughts you have to prevent you from doing anything silly even if its just a friend to talk too it helps
i wish my brother had done so 20 years ago the loss is never forgotten
and pills and alcohol never help they just numb the problem until its too late
help is always 1 phone call away think about that the next time you feel vulnerable

awww thats great news Aled! :D congrats! Well you know we'll all be listening every sunday!
I had a period of my life where i was going through a 'rough patch', i wasn't told i was depressed (my parents thought i was) but everything in my life wasn't going well, i'd just finished school and had no job and it was really tough, i lost weight, i wasn't really communicating with anyone it drove a wedge between me and my family etc but it did get better in the end :) Tough...but a great subject matter to get into, i'll be spreading the word too :) Let us know how you want us to interact, i'll def be texting in lol.

Well done Aled -

Depression is something I think everyone has had to deal with in some way shape or form - I have felt at my wits end - and no one to talk to even though I know I do - and I suppose its that feeling of utter abandonment really that can cause the wrong thing to happen. 2 colleagues were coming home from a meeting in Dublin last night and someone threw themselves under the train. It happens everyday and there isnt an easy way to stop it - but what i helping is talking about the issues and shows like the surgery (with a good host mr j!)

Good luck with the shows - do a profile on gay single fatties - I will do any project lol!

Fabulous news Aled! I too am an expert at depression having suffered with it on and off all my life. The main problem with it is that because no one can see the problem, can't put a bandage on it, they don't understand it!

What do you mean when you say you want to get us involved?

True but still maybe a bit of a sweeping generalisation?

Kate
09-10-2008, 10:38 PM
I don't see how I generalised? I simply asked a question, I didn't make a statement saying 'Wow, everyone on this site is depressed', or anything along those lines. Not that it would matter to me if that were the case, I just thought it was interesting how many people had posted about feeling depressed, that's all.

Andrew80

But they're the only posts that had been made.

It is true lol - to be honest Id be surprised if anyone had not been effected by depression at some stage. Even if its only mild - we arent queuing up to go under the orient express, however its part of everyone.

well done aled thats fantastic news!

gonna have to add to that total of people who have suffered/still do suffer with it. not been so low that i would want to end it, my 4 kids stop that from ever being on my mind! what annoyed me at the time i was diagnosed was the fact that i was crying out to the dr to let me talk to someone, some kinda counselling but he said no and put me on tabs!! think that seems to be the answer to all to some drs! i look forward to hearing the show very much!

Its important not to overuse the term "depression". All of us have times in our lives when things are going badly, we feel rubbish, it looks like life couldn't get any worse and will never get any better - but that's not depression. Depression is a clinical condition and needs to be medically diagnosed. I have been treated for it twice in my life, a fairly long time ago, and the treatment works. Unfortunately treating the general feeling utterly crap because your life sucks which most people call depression is far, far harder, if not impossible.

I agree with what you say, however i don't think that you need a doctor to tell you that you have it. I haven't been to the doctors about mine, and i have suffered for 2 years. I'm not going to go into details on a public forum, but i reached a point where i thought about taking my own life. But because a doctor hasn't said so, does that mean i dont have depression?

Of course not - but it doesn't mean you have got it either. The thing I was trying to get at was that often other symptoms which aren't clinical (therefore treatable) are actually a lot worse than clinical depression. Whatever it is you have is obviously awful, but I would say see a doctor because if it IS clinical depression, it is treatable. But whichever way you go, I wish you the very best getting through it.

Kelly just annoys me too much so I never normally bother.

What a waste of space that girl is. Recent evidence would point to her being one of the laziest and unreliable people on the planet, which is no great surprise. God help her if she ever fell on hard times and had to do a real job i.e. one that meant she had to work more than 10 days a year, not get paid a celebrity sized fee, and actually turn up when she was supposed to. Good on Chris for cancelling her today.

s4b
10-10-2008, 09:49 PM
Oooh did she actually not turn up? I had to stop listening as I was on Radio Cambridgeshire (for some reason they don't like you listening to another station when you're on theirs) Last I heard Aled was going to check if she had got in the car when Dave stopped him to play Quizzine! - loved that bit by the way!

Hannahbee
10-10-2008, 09:49 PM
Yes exactly! I just find her really annoying. Especially when it's clear she's trying to give advice on something she's never ever experienced!
And yeah, Chris was so right this morning. They shouldn't have exceptions for Kelly.

Yudster
11-10-2008, 09:23 AM
I have to say I thought she was a strange choice for The Surgery - sure, she's experienced some issues, but they aren't exactly the same kind of issues as you and I would have - and the solution in her world is to spend shedloads of money getting other people to "fix" the problem.

Interestingly though, I think Aled has demonstrated brilliantly that you don't actually have to have direct experience of a problem to be able to help someone who is suffering - you just need to have empathy and genuine sympathy, which he seems to have lots of.

I must admit, I would like to have been a witness to some of the fall out from dumping Kelly this morning. I bet it wasn't pretty.

Hey everyone, thanks SO much for your support. I'm astonished at the openess some people have shown on here already regarding some of the Surgery topics.

I promise I'll do what I can on Sunday to get answers for you in how to cope.

So far I know that this Sunday's show is about depression and speaking to people who feel things have got on top of them a bit lately and then the week after we're off due to an Oasis special.

I'm having a meeting with Joce (ex Moyles now Surgery producer) on Wed to discuss future topics and any format tweaks.

Any requests?

Budgeting - how to do it especially over Christmas, it's too easy for young people to get in debt now.

School bullies - I know it's been done before but there are lots more kids out there new to the show who might not have heard it. My son came home from school today upset and cross because some lad had nicked his locker key and demanded money before he would give it back!

indeed it is hm stuff for the show one would be what s4 said

also bullying why people do it and how it afftects others?

also a show on hate why poeple hate other people based on age, gender, sexuality, handycaps, race, they way you look and were you live? and faith
also whys to deal with hate towards you

that would be good if you had time to

maybe a show on diffent types of faiths there a lot of hate for pagans at the mo due to propaganda and lies told by other faiths it would be nice to hear more about other faiths

Despite having to read this about 3 times to understand it, i agree. Something about different faiths/races could be good. I've been bullied for being a christian and it's all because people make assumptions. I think that to some extent, if they knew more about other peoples beliefs and cultures, they might be more understanding.

PinkTribble

Hannah, you'll get used to bbb's way of speaking. ;)

bbb, I totally agree about the dislike of Pagans. People, unfortunately, tend to equate Paganism with Devil Worship, because they are too bloody ignorant to make a distinction.

All anyone has to do with any religion is actually make the effort to do a little research. Then they can make an informed opinion.

Makes me mighty annoyed does that.
