I might actually listen this week, i've been trying to start my career for the last 5 years and due partly to my incompetence and partly because the job i want to do doesnt really have a bottom rung that the untrained can get onto. I havent been able to. And the last 2 years ive spent listening to chris moyles too much and not getting on with doing the training i need, Which is gonna leave me in serious debt come January.

Good topic to cover, again i wont be able to listen live/be in the chat room (dvd night at my friends lol) but i'll listen again. Im sure it will help a lot of people who either dont know what they want to do after school and dont know who to go to to ask or people who are a bit bored of theirs. :)

i was loving scott mills as a postman
I don't mean to be too rude or out of line here, but are these really careers people wish to lead ? Hairdresser, postman and Florist?
I know Postie is a Royal Mail employee and i'm sure its a very rewarding job, but is this really representative of the careers that people who listen to Radio 1 actually want to aspire or lead to do?
I again can't help but feel a little patronised by Radio 1 and this feature.
Why haven't Radio 1 sent Aled to an RAF station to fly around in one of its Aircraft for the day or sent Scott Mills to be Doctor or nurse?

Adam, that is a little rude. People can be whatever they want to be, who are you to pass judgement on what careers people want to lead? People have different interests, my sister for example is training to be a hair dresser at the minute because she's passionate about hair dressing? Makes sense no? And she's a Radio 1 listener. And I'm gonna stick my neck out and say that I'm pretty positive that she won't be the only one.
Not everyone has a clear goal with what they want in life, maybe you do, which is great, I know I always have too, but there are plenty of people out there who don't, and something like this will be massively useful for them, be it for ideas, or just general advice for those just leaving school.
There we go, rant over. Just thought I had to say something there.

I agree with Chong - aspirational careers are well and good however real jobs are what most people work in/end up in.
I know I have people working along side me with Masters and Phds but they have worked in retail and actually realised they enjoyed it.
Some people never have a clear goal of where they want to go - for example my cvs to all the formula one teams to be their next world champion have yet again gone unanswered.

correct me if i am wrong but the whole idea behind this feature is that if you are in a career that you are not happy and would like to change then these are some examples

yes, that's it. It's a vehicle to get you online and to our career pages and to the Surgery on Sunday. We're not suggesting these are the jobs you want.
These are the jobs that the online questionnaire gave when the djs filled it in.

i thought that was the case cause sara cox was talking about how she would like to be a florist a few weeks ago and this is the job she would of liked to have done if she had not been a DJ
