View Full Version : Chris Moyles & Blogs

I find it a shame, Chris, no longer writes blogs. One of main reasons I visited was to see what he wrote.

Whilst the team on the breakfast show is fairly large and with plenty to blog about, he doesn't seem to appear anymore?

I know blogging is slowly becoming less cool, and I suspect Chris get bored easily but its just less appealing to read now.

Can someone also explain to me the 'What is the team doing ..' blogs?

And secondly, where has Aled's blogs gone as well?!

Proper Presenter?

Was he just a Presenter beforehand? ;)

I think Aled can be termed 'Broadcaster' now.

Hopefully he doesn't scare any of the Work experience people now, like Jenni Murray did with me :eusa_doh:

Aww I DO love you guys, you're all great at giving me that warm glow in the mornings - yes even you Yudster.

As for the blogs, Chris doesn't get excited about doing them. He can't be made to do them - if it's not his thing, he's just not going to do it - a little like playing 5 songs per half hour! :) lol

What the team are doing is supposed to be a kind of "behind the scenes" type thing which only bloggers get to know about - they do make me smile as there's sometimes a few little gems in there.

I write those - I also make sure everyone else's get on so it's my project. Being my project it seems odd for me to write on there too - but you're right, maybe I should!

So - I presume he agreed to it when the blog thing was first orgainsed? If not, why was it announced that he would do it? And if he wasn't going to do it, why did he say he would? If you say you are going to do something, you should do it. If he didn't commit to it in the fiorst place though, it shouldn't have been announced that he would be doing it.

All the other Presenters at Radio 1 maintain there blogs. I read Greg James' blog all the time.

I emailed him asking why he didn't have a blog and a few weeks later, one appeared.

It just seems a shame that he can't make the effort to write a small blog every so often. It's like writing an email to friends telling them what they've been up too, how they're finding the show etc. Why can't Moyles simply email Aled or another member of team and they post it on his behalf?

Kate

I think it's fair enough if Chris has no interest in posting blogs. That's unsurprising given that he clearly isn't a big reader and doesn't have a natural flair for writing, judging by his two books.

But when this 'new' blog rota was announced he was down to do one every Friday, and if the other members of the team (who I imagine may well not always be too delighted to have to sit down and write their blogs either) can be bothered to stick with it then so should Chris. If he doesn't want to be involved with the blog side of things then he should disassociate himself from it altogether.

I also think that videos, recipes, and pub quiz answers shouldn't be allowed to count as a blog, unless they are accompanied by a proper written blog. I see that Carrie (who does always write a proper blog, to be fair to her) is still !!! all over the place. Is this now supposed to be a running joke? Dom and Dave's blogs are usually amusing, and Rachel's are the ones most likely to be free of mistakes.

I think Aled should write his own blogs as well as the team ones, because he'd be likely to do it regularly and can write well.

I agree - I don't mind if Chris doesn't want to blog to be honest, each to their own - but if he agreed to the current (supposed) set up, why isn't he doing it? And if he didn't agree - why is he on the rota?

Mitchell

There should be an official change, really. Maybe use Friday for a rotation? A guest blog, or a Fincham/Piers/the girl whose name I forget blog. Sarah! Her.

Or a special listener blog :)

I will blog more though - see yesterday's posting!

I notice that the team blogging idea seems to have been almost entirely given upon for 2009. Leaving aside blogs which only consist of a couple of sentences and a video and the 'What the team are doing today' ones, there have been a grand total of 5 proper blogs in the 4 weeks the show has been on this year.

These were all written by Carrie and Rachel, which lends proof to the theory that girls are far more conscientious when it comes to doing what they are supposed to do than lazy boys are!

Mitchell
07-02-2009, 06:28 PM
That, and Carrie really seems to love writing about herself. Her blogs are usually pretty meaty and she is enjoying Twitter by the looks. I think it's more a personality thing - as geeky as Chris is, it's an effort he probably doesn't care about doing after two books under his wing. Dave doesn't seem to like writing. And Dom seems to have everything better to do than blogging.

Kate
07-02-2009, 06:40 PM
I agree that Carrie seems to enjoy writing about herself, and that's probably part of the reason she does do her blogs. Aled is another person who enjoys writing/talking about himself, so I don't understand why he doesn't play a more active part in the team blogs.

Mitchell

I imagine time is his factor. He's barely on his own site, so why would he blog on someone elses? :icon_razz2:

Yudster

Mitchell

I wasn't being serious - but if we're being in-depth about it, I doubt that it's part of Aled's contract that he has to blog and therefore the argument could theoretically be that it was a voluntarily agreed schedule that time won't allow to work in its current format.

Or maybe they're all just lazy blog haters.

Hey Aled,

What has happend to the blogs recently? Or rather a lack of them?

Do the fans of the show really have an interest in what the team are up too? I certainly don't anymore.

The whole point of a blog is to be open and it allows an individual to say something interesting. I wished the show would take the Greg James approach and keep them concise.

Over the last two months, all the team has been posting is what they are up to, with the exception of Carrie.

The web monkeys could at least put a Twitter feed up on the site so those without Twitter can see what the team are up to.

Like ChrisMoyles.net *shudder* did.

The poor updating of the running order appears to have hit a record this week. It's now Thursday yet you can still only get Monday's if you click on 'today's running order'. The same thing happens if you go to 'What the team is up to today'. It really can't be that hard to keep a simple show page updated.

Oh my God Kate - you are so on it. It was only today I made a note to myself to try and sort out the Today's Running order for this week.

It's quite simply if Matt's not in the office it won't be done and Tues and Wed we were out of the office. But I was hoping they'd have gone up today.

As for blogs and Twitter - it's immensely political. Anything I write here either in support or against our blogs would get me into trouble with someone - just believe me when I say I share your pain.

I expect we're going to not have our blog soon - which is a shame, but understandable.

Twitter has taken over (rightly or wrongly) and is providing a much better form of interactivity than blogs ever did.

The politics however is that Chris owns his Twitter page and can write what he likes, whereas the BBC owns the blog and the bbc site. Posting Chris' page with his words on a BBC site breaks rules (don't ask!), so that won't happen in this current climate.

I do like the blog though...

Has Chris thought of making more use of ChrisMoyles.net? It is a fansite but it's as close to official as you'll get without being BBC-related.

Or will that possibly hurt the wealth of audio downloads they have?

It's good for you at least that you have this site to be honest on. You should use it more ;)

Oh my God Kate - you are so on it. It was only today I made a note to myself to try and sort out the Today's Running order for this week.

Which did happen shortly after I had made that post to be fair to you. Is that actually your responsibility though? And if it's someone else's (like Matt Fincham's) then why should you be expected to sort it out?

It's quite simply if Matt's not in the office it won't be done and Tues and Wed we were out of the office.

Doesn't he have a laptop or a mobile phone? As I said before, it doesn't seem like a particularly difficult job.

I think it's better not to have a blog at all than having one which is very poorly updated because most of the people involved in it clearly aren't keen on writing blogs/have questionable writing skills!!!!!!

The politics however is that Chris owns his Twitter page and can write what he likes, whereas the BBC owns the blog and the bbc site.

I'd guess that Chris probably very much prefers the short statements that Twitter requires over the more lengthy blogs he used to very occasionally be forced to write on the Radio 1 site.

It's Matt's job, but as producer everything connected to the show is my (and Rachel's) responsibilty.

No, it has to be done within a BBC network, hence why it has to be done at Radio 1 HQ

I agree, but it's a useful way for us to get pics / vids / comments / sites up that we're discussing in the show that doesn't involve html. I'm working on an alternative way - perhaps a hybrid of Twitter with the online team that would provide us with that ability. The blog would then go.

I'd guess that Chris probably very much prefers the short statements that Twitter requires over the more lengthy blogs he used to very occasionally be forced to write on the Radio 1 site.

None of us like writing essays - but more importantly we get instant interactivity with Twitter which you don't get with blogs because a) people need to be logged in to the BBC system to reply and b) we have to log into OUR BBC system to reply to their replies. Twitter you can do in or out of work on your mobile.

Thats what annoyed me about posting comments on the blogs that you have to register first, im sure that it didnt start like that though...you just had to put your name and your comment...? Or did i imagine that? lol
