The debate show is back. This week it's with Charlotte from BBC Revealed and Nihal (who does his own debate show on the Asian Network).

This week we want your opinions on whether Sport is sexist and how old should you be to be a parents? 13? 16? 26? 40?

Sport isn't sexist - the audiences are, IMO.

sports arent sexist - however male dominated environments can be difficult for people of different sexes/orientation to come through?

Age to be a parent - age of consent would be a start.

In relation to the 13 year old dad Im just jealous that a 12 year old gets more action than me lol! only kidding. 12 year old is wrong!

Sport isnt sexist. End of.

As for parenting... I dont think it matters how old you are. Just because someone is 13 doesnt necessarily make them any less mature than someone who is 33, and the same applies to the age of consent.

But the coverage of it is?

But the coverage of it is?

TV networks need to make money. More men watch sport than woman, so they show sports that appeal most to the general audience. Not sexist!

Ideally you should be a parent when you're emotionally and economically responsible. Age doesn't have much to do with it IMO

you would be surprised how many women like male sports
so no sport is not sexist

But the coverage of it is?

I dont think so, they are certainly marketed towards a target audience. But thats like saying Radio 1 is ageist because its targeted at young people.

And i think the BBC does a good job of promoting womens football, despite the fact its of a poorer quality for the most part, than the male game.

I do think the fans can be sexist, there was a female commentator on match of the day for the first time a few years ago (a job i believe is Carrie's ambition) and she got absolutely hammered by the fans, who did focus their complaints on her sex, rather than the fact that she was just a bit boring as a commentator and didnt seem to have as much natural enthusiasm (a criticism i would level at certain male commentators aswell)

on the parent issue i think about 20 is young enough for a parent as i think a child needs to enjoy they teens without such pressure of parenting

As Ajay said, and as I originally stated, sports fans can be incredibly sexist. Although the comments that Comedy Dave makes about womens football are tongue-in-cheek, it represents a vast proportion of football fans who genuinely think that way. Combat sports are similar because people want to watch men fight and not necessarily women and consider men to be better fighters because they're tougher. The only notable exception is in America with MMA, now that Gina Carano is a proven TV success with her fights.

It's not all sports, mind - no one bats an eyelid at women in running or track and field. But, especially in football, there is such a male domination that people seem to be stuck in the dark ages and live in the old bubble of football being the most important thing in life and having to be done by men.

i do love a Good mas debate

will come back and edit with my views when i have some time :)

(eidt) n in short i would say yes is a little bit most sports are very male domantied and yea it seems that maybe more males watch sports

how ever therre are female football teams now and hockey im not sure what else rugby maybe? any time that i have watched the tv for sport it always seems to be the male teams only

as for what age to have kids at 20 or above is fine it really is up to the people who want to comit and start a family after all it is there lifes so i dont see much of a point in debateing that as its really up to those who want to start a family but as we are talking about it i would maybe go for 25 and above depnding on i i would have a stable job ive maybe done all the travleing that i have wanted to do

not that im going to be haveing kids any way

as for those 13 year olds that just had kids well they have perrty much just ruined there youth in a way tho i bet you there rakeing in all the childcare benits that will probaly get spent on drink and smokes tho that being judgemental witch im not normaly like any way that all i have to say for now :)

Oooh that will be interesting. I think kids should be allowed to be kids without the responsibility of parenting however putting an age on it is difficult as I know some 16 year olds that are much more mentally mature than some 30 year olds.

Sport is a little sexist. Take tennis for instance, the men's final is always the last to be played insinuating that it is much more important than the women's and the men get paid more (although that may have changed but I don't think so). The 6 nations rugby - how much coverage has the women's 6 nations had? Women do seem to get a raw deal BUT I think, in general, fewer women are interested in sport. (Not all I know, personally I love to watch rugby, snooker, tennis and the odd football match.
