school cover up bullying rant

:arnie: today I had to go in again to sort out an indicent that happened in the school involving my son...we had a meeting with the head...

my son had two lads come up to him and threaten him..only reason they never sprayed the aersol in his eyes and mouth is because they heard a teacher was coming.. It could have resulted in him goign to hospital..

the head teacher said he'll sort it but he kept saying that bullying doesnt happen in that school, but yet we hear it on a regular basis from other children from the same school that things go on but the the teachers dont listen...they say they do when you challenge them but they dont.

The thing is they go to the bullies and we all now they have their story straight before hand so you child ends up looking like his done something wrong to warrant it..

there should be some-one in the school seperate from the teachers and head the kids can goto to speak to...and this keeping logs etc...what does it take the child to die or end up in hospital for something to be done..

I phoned the police last night, because its getting to that stage...and we asked the head to refer us to another school but he says he cant do that, but we've spoken to the school we want him to go to and they say diff...

As parents we can only do so much, we stop our kids going to the school we get fined, we send them in and the situation doesnt resolve itself what are we to do?? they wont kick these kids out of teh school it dont look good on the league tables or to ofsted.

Why cant they admit that it happens and they deal with it seriously instead of fobbing us off each time....

I thought schools were obliged to do something about bullying these days. Anti-bullying policies and all.

It always pisses me off that the victim gets the blame.

I always think that if things like this happened in the street, the police would be involved immediately. So my take on it was always that if there was a situation in school that I found out about which I felt put one of my kids in the way of physical harm, I made it clear to the school that if they didn't deal with it, and demonstrate to my satisfaction that they were dealing with it, I would ask the police to do so. I was pretty fortunate that my kids went to a secondary school where they were very conscientious about dealing with bullies, but in a school that isn't so good this might be a useful tactic. Of course it would really only work in cases of physical assault - emotional assault isn't really in the remit of the police unfortunately.
