A man in China has been denied permission to name his son '@' as it can't be translated in to Mandarin, but he argues that it is a character used on keyboards! Luckily(?) for his son, they don't live in the USA, where naming your offspring as a software upgrade is totally fine - Jon Blake Cusack Version 2.0 (http://www.theregister.com/2004/02/03/us_parents_give_birth/)!

What have you seen/heard of recently that is just totally random?

OMG that is so odd!!! As if you would!! there are enough random names out there - it's the kiddies i feel sorry for, they are all going to have such random names by the time they all hit their 20's... they are all named after objects, places and emotions!
Whatever happened to good old names??!!!!!

Well for a start "@" is such a stupid name for a child so good on them for not allowing it , i mean what next if they had another would they call him "&"
then you have so called celebs naming their kids like "tree" or "leaf" or "apple"

A girl i once knew (hope she isn't on here!) had a baby at highschool back in the day when it wasn't the norm... anyway she called her boy Bailey (after the drink she loved and obviously was drinking when she conceived - she was only 15/16) Her 2nd child was a girl called Tequila and she recently had a 3rd called Brandy.
I think it's terrible naming your kids in that fashion - all 3 named after alcoholic beverages. On their own the names are quite nice (well, Bailey and Brandy are) but to have all 3 with names like that is so wrong IMO.
The youngest is 10 now and i'm sure it wont be long until he starts getting picked on at school when the kids realise the connection.

I suppose its wrong of me to actually like the name Tequila then? - which I do, I cant wait to have kids just so I can name them, I think that modern names are becoming more common and therefore the chances of them getting picked on is slim considering there will be many others in their class with odd names. I do like Ruby Scarlet and the like too :)

I like the names, i just don't think it's fair to name ALL THREE after alcoholic beverages - that's just too much!
